Privacy
DEV.B is built to warn people, not to watch them. It asks for no name and no account, and it has no advertising, analytics or tracking.
Last updated: 31 October 2026 · Applies to the DEV.B app (test version) and devdotb.com
Privacy policy
This policy explains what information the DEV.B app and this website handle, why, who can see it and how long it is kept. DEV.B is currently in testing and not yet published in the app stores. We will update this policy before any change to how data is handled, such as adding internet servers or accounts.
Today, DEV.B has no servers. Alerts travel directly from phone to phone over Bluetooth. Nothing you do in the app is sent to us.
Privacy promise
- No name, no account. You never type your name, email or phone number into DEV.B.
- Location only as precise as needed. When you send or answer a report, the app shares only a rough area of about 200 metres, never your exact position.
- No map of people. DEV.B never records where you go or builds a history of anyone's movements.
- No ads, no trackers, no selling. We do not sell or share data for advertising, and the app contains no analytics or advertising code.
- You stay in control. You can delete your reports and your photo in Settings at any time.
Data we collect
What leaves your phone
Only when you act, and only to DEV.B phones nearby (over Bluetooth):
- A danger report: the type of danger (for example flood or landslide), the rough area (about 200 m), the time, an optional short note of up to 100 characters, and whether you added a photo.
- Your answer to "Do you see it?": yes or no, and your rough area, so others can tell how close you were.
- A random device code. This is a random number the app makes each time it starts. It does not contain your name, phone number or hardware ID. Phones use it to avoid counting the same answer twice.
Phones that receive a report keep it for up to 6 hours so they can pass it on to others, then delete it. A note you write is visible to the people who receive your report, so please do not include names or private details.
What stays on your phone
- Your country and language choice, your emergency numbers and your emergency bag checklist.
- The list of reports you sent ("My reports").
- Your optional photo (see Your photo).
In the current test version, most of these settings are cleared when the app restarts. Your optional photo is kept until you delete it.
What we receive
Nothing. DEV.B does not run servers today, so we do not receive reports, answers, locations or photos.
Phone permissions
- Location: to work out how far a danger is and to attach a rough area to your reports and answers. Your exact position is never shared or stored.
- Notifications: to show alerts. Later, with your permission, alerts may sound even when your phone is on silent.
- Bluetooth: to pass alerts to and from DEV.B phones nearby when there is no internet. DEV.B never uses Bluetooth to work out your location.
- Camera and photos: only when you choose to add a photo to a report or take your optional photo.
You can refuse or turn off any permission in your phone's settings. Some features will then not work. For example, without location the app cannot show distances.
Your photo
During setup you can take an optional photo of yourself so that, if you ask for help, rescuers know who to look for.
- It is saved only on your phone, inside the app's private storage, and is never uploaded to us.
- It is meant to be shared only when you tap "I need help". In the current test version, it is not shared at all.
- You can retake or delete it at any time in Settings → My photo. Deleting the app also deletes it.
Security
- Less data, less risk. The best protection is not having data: no names, no accounts, no central database of reports or faces.
- Your photo and settings are stored in the app's private storage, which other apps cannot read.
- Reports are kept by phones for a short time only (up to 6 hours).
- Reports over Bluetooth are not encrypted. They are public warnings, so any DEV.B phone nearby can read them. Never put private information in a note.
If you find a security problem, please tell us at contact@devdotb.com.
This website
devdotb.com has no cookies, analytics or tracking. Like any website, the services that deliver it see your IP address when you visit:
- our hosting provider, Vercel, which keeps standard server logs;
- Google Fonts, which supplies the typefaces;
- Pexels, which supplies the photo on the home page.
Their own privacy policies apply. App store downloads are handled by Apple and Google under their policies.
Children, changes and contact
DEV.B can be used by anyone, including children, and does not ask for personal information. If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above. For important changes, such as adding accounts or internet servers, we will also tell you in the app before the change.
